  • Colt

    Colt

“Abe Lincoln may have freed all men, but Sam Colt made them equal”

This post-Civil War slogan would have been music to Sam Colt’s ears had he lived long enough to hear it. Yet, even before his death at age 47, he knew that his invention of a weapon capable of firing without reloading would be a tremendous success throughout the world & would alter the course of history. As a result of his invention & marketing successes, Colt has played a prominent role in the development of America, and has become the most well-known name in firearms throughout much of the world.

    Origins of the Company

The Colt revolving cylinder concept is said to have occurred to Sam Colt while serving as a seaman aboard the ship Corvo. He observed a similar principle in mechanical workings of the ship, generally believed to be the capstan or the windlass. It was on the ship that Sam carved the wooden representation of his idea. While the design was simple & applicable to both longarms & sidearms, his idea was not an instant success. Many people still preferred traditional flintlock muskets or pistols to the revolver.

In 1836, Sam’s entrepreneurial career began at age 22, opening his first plant in Paterson, New Jersey with the help of a successful uncle. He soon developed & produced the pocket, belt, and holster model pistols along with two types of rifles. In these models, known as percussion guns, the gunpowder & bullets were loaded into the revolving cylinder, the primer was placed in a nipple on the outside of the cylinder, and then the primer would be struck by the hammer when the trigger was pulled. Despite favorable performance, sales were sluggish & the plant closed in 1842. After the closing of the Paterson plant, Sam began focusing on other ideas, including waterproof ammunition, underwater mines, and also worked with inventor Samuel Morse on the telegraph.

    Early Successes

IN 1845, units of the US Dragoon forces & Texas rangers were fighting the Indians in Texas, and contributed their success to Colt’s firearms. As a result, Captain Samuel H. Walker of the US Army collaborated with Colt in designing a new, more powerful revolver. Dubbed the “Walker”, the US Ordnance Department ordered one thousand of the new pistols. Without a factory, Colt turned to Eli Whitney Jr. who had a factory in Connecticut, to fill the thousand gun order in 1847.

Move to West Hartford to Present Day

In 1994, the Hartford Armory was closed and moved to its present day location in West Hartford. Commemorating the move from the armory, Colt unveiled “The Last Gun” in 1995, which was the last Single Action Army produced at the Hartford Army and elaborately embellished with engraving and gold inlays representative of the Colt family & company lineage.

Today, Colt continues to produce firearms for our military, law enforcement, commercial, and international markets. It is with pride in the legacy left by Sam Colt that we continue to carry on the tradition of producing quality firearms.

In 1950 the Company became a separate state enterprise called “Presne strojirenstvi Uhersky Brod” (The Precision Machine Tooling Company) and was subsequently reorganized into a number of specialized directorates.

  • Windham Weaponry

    Windham Weaponry

When the people who bought Bushmaster in 2006 decided to move it “lock, stock and barrel” out of Maine to New York in 2011, the original Bushmaster owner, Mr. Richard Dyke was left with both a dilemma and an opportunity. Almost to the day of the 2011 move, Mr. Dyke’s non-compete clause expired. He still owned the property where Bushmaster had been built, and knew all the workers - now laid off - who had helped him build it. He made a decision to “get back in the game” and promptly put an email out to many of his former employees and friends asking if there was interest in joining him for a new project.

With a resounding “yes” of support, he gathered the financing in two days, and started bringing people back into their long-time Windham manufacturing home. Phoenix-like, Windham Weaponry was on the rise. Within three months, the first productions models of the new Windham Weaponry line had been perfected and delivered. Quality, fit, finish, durability, accuracy and value were all superb - giving credence to Windham Weaponry’s motto “The Quality Goes In, Before The Rifle Goes Out”.

The firearms industry and consumers welcomed this new effort warmly, old friends and contacts were re-established, and sales grew. In less than a year and a half, Windham Weaponry had brought back almost 70 employees, benchmarked impressive sales numbers, and established their name as one of the pre-eminent firearms manufacturers in the country.

The press heralded it as “truly an American success story”, and all due to the vision of its founder. Further growth for Windham Weaponry has already been planned and implemented.

  • Core 15 Rifle Systems

    Core 15 Rifle Systems

How best to introduce Core 15 Rifle Systems?

What else about a product says as much about how highly a maker values their own work?

It’s a mark of integrity, an assurance that the person who built it believes in it enough to stand behind it. Lawyers, legalese and fine print have no place in it. And we feel theirs both stands on its own and speaks for itself.

“The rifle you have just purchased has the simplest, most plainly written warranty you will ever read. This is no fine print. There are no exceptions. This CORE15 rifle has been manufactured and assembled with painstaking care and precision by proud US Veterans, trained by the best there is. If anything is not up to your standard, accuracy included, if anything goes wrong, gets bent, broken, cracked, misaligned, tweaked, snapped or otherwise, simply contact one of our professionals and we will work to make it right. If you are the 5th owner and the rifle has seen 40k+ rounds, it simply….doesn’t….matter. We stand behind our products and we take care of our customers.

That is our promise and your assurance.”

That is the Core Difference. See. Shoot. Believe.

  • Magnum Research

    Magnum Research

Magnum Research Inc.® (MRI) opened up a new chapter in its 25 year old history when the Minneapolis, MN based company was purchased by Kahr Arms® in June 2010. Kahr Arms, based in Worcester, MA with offices and factories in Massachusetts, New York, Illinois and California is a well known producer of high quality compact handguns and maker of the world famous Thompson submachine guns commonly known as the “Tommy Gun®”. Magnum Research's founders, Jim Skildum and John Risdall had been involved with the company since 1979. Both men oversaw the ascent of the Desert Eagle® Pistol from a concept on paper to a pop culture icon including a Playboy magazine front cover featuring Pamela Anderson showing off a Pink Desert Eagle pistol.

Over the past 25 years MRI has been responsible for the design and development of the Desert Eagle pistol. The design was refined and the actual pistols were manufactured by Israel Military Industries until 1995, when MRI shifted the manufacturing contract to Saco Defense in Saco, Maine. In 1998, MRI moved manufacturing back to IMI, which later reorganized under the name Israel Weapon Industries. Both Saco and IMI/IWI were strictly contractors: all of the intellectual property, including patents, copyrights and trademarks are the property of Magnum Research. Since 2009 the Desert Eagle Pistol has been produced in the USA at MRI's Pillager, MN facility. Besides offering the basic black finish MRI has developed a line-up of the Desert Eagle pistols in a number of distinctive and appealing finishes including classic brushed chrome and the latest “Tiger Stripe” pattern in a titanium nitride coated finish.

Magnum Research imported the IMI/IWI brand of pistols under the Baby Desert Eagle name until the end of 2008. The importation of the Baby Desert Eagle will resume in 2011 with the purchase of MRI by Kahr Arms. Other products from MRI include the DE1911G and DE1911C from BUL Ltd. in Israel and a striker fired polymer frame pistol from Walther in Germany, MR9 and MR40 Eagle. Featuring a Walther polymer frame with a stainless steel slide and barrel made in the US these innovative pistols are being introduced in 2011. MRI also produces the BFR series of single-action magnum revolvers, the Mountain Eagle® Center-fire rifles and Magnum Lite® Rim-fire rifles featuring graphite barrels.

Gun Tote'n Mamas™, an affordable line of Concealed Carry handbags, was inspired and developed BY WOMEN FOR WOMEN. We don't make this statement lightly. Our parent company, Kingport Industries LLC, is a Certified Women Owned Business (WBE, WBENC) since 2004. In 2008 we exhibited at the Shot Show for the first time. Being in the travel goods and accessory leather products industry for over 35 years, we displayed and demonstrated these products which included handbags. We were not prepared for the OVERWHELMING response from Instructors, Law Enforcement and Security Personnel (men and women) asking if our handbags were made for Concealed Carry. That AH-HA moment proved how important it was to provide reasonably priced, high quality and multi-tasking concealed carry bags without compromise on design, construction and, most important, LEATHER. We spent over a year doing extensive research and development. We collaborated and worked through issues and concerns expressed to us by Instructors of CCW classes all across the United States. Every one of our products has been TESTED, TESTED, TESTED by Instructors from facilities training CSI, FBI and Navy Seals to the consumer like yourself. We want to hear it all - we are not afraid and HIGHLY encourage your feedback. It is comments from the field that will continue to make these bags the best for the job. • Sig Sauer

    Sig Sauer

In 1853, Friedrich Peyer im Hof, Heinrich Moser and Conrad Neher began what they thought would become a successful wagon factory above the Rhine Falls in Switzerland. Little did they know then, that their company would become one of the world's most renowned manufacturers of small arms.

Just seven years after constructing an industrial plant for building the most sophisticated wagons and railway cars, the three ambitious owners undertook a more serious venture. In part to a challenge from Switzerland's Federal Ministry of Defense, the Swiss Wagon Factory entered the competition to develop a state-of-the-art rifle with the hopes the Swiss Army would adopt it. Four years later, the award went to the Swiss Wagon Factory for its Prelaz-Burnand rifle. At this point, the Swiss Wagon Factory, with an order for 30,000 muzzle loading Prelaz-Burnand rifles in hand, changed the name of the company to the Swiss Industrial Company - Schweizerische Industrie-Gesellschaft, known worldwide as SIG.

Fast-forward to the 20th century. The SIG P49, the forerunner of the SIG P210, was developed for the Swiss Army and destined to become a legend on the battlefield as well as the competition field. The P220 made its appearance as the new pistol for the army, soon followed by the compact P230 for the Swiss police. These pistols offered new features and levels of reliability never before seen in the industry. By the 1970's, SIG's small arms division was expanding to include Hämmerli Target Arms from Lenzburg, Switzerland, and J.P. Sauer & Sohn, GmbH, of Eckernförde, West Germany, known worldwide for their hunting rifles. In the 1980's, SIG set its sights on the United States of America.

The American market was a vital part of SIG's business plan to continue to expand its market share and become an international leader in the small arms industry. January of 1985 marked the birth date of SIGARMS®, Inc. SIGARMS, then located in Tyson's Corner, Virginia, imported the P220® and the P230. Two years later, SIGARMS moved to a larger location in Herndon, Virginia, and introduced the P225 in 9mm followed by the P226® and P228 in 9mm. By 1990, SIGARMS was looking to increase market share and begin manufacturing. SIGARMS moved to its present location in Exeter, New Hampshire, and in 1992, began production of the P229® in .40 S&W.
Besides importing the SIG Sauer line of pistols, SIGARMS offered customer service from highly qualified gunsmiths in the reputable service department and state-of-the-art training at a separate training facility on 128 acres in Epping, New Hampshire. SIGARMS continued to expand its firearm lines with the Sauer rifle line and the Hämmerli line of target pistols and rifles. In 1998, SIGARMS brought in the first shotgun line designed specifically for SIGARMS by B. Rizzini of Italy. The next year, the revolutionary Blaser R93 rifle line from Isny, Germany, was distributed nationwide through SIGARMS.

On October 1, 2007 SIGARMS changed its name to SIG SAUER®. The change reflects the vast worldwide growth in demand for SIG SAUER products. In response, the company has more than tripled its work force in the past 30 months, invested 18 million US dollars in state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities and equipment, and significantly expanded its engineering base. The name change, coupled with major new product introductions in pistols and rifles, reflects the continued commitment to the high standards of production, service and innovation the SIG SAUER brand has always represented.

Today, SIG SAUER is an ISO 9001 certified company with over 800 employees. It is the largest member of a worldwide business group of firearms manufacturers that includes J.P. Sauer & Sohn and Blaser, Gmbh. in Germany and Swiss Arms AG in Switzerland. This global network of companies gives SIG SAUER a world-class firearms knowledge base, unparalleled design expertise, and extensive manufacturing capacity, enabling the company to respond quickly and effectively to changing market conditions and the needs of its military, law enforcement, and commercial markets worldwide.

  • Springfield Armory

    Springfield Armory

If you are looking for a Firearm from a manufacturer with a proven track record of engineering excellence then please consider that as far back as 1777 George Washington first ordered the creation of Springfield Armory to store revolutionary ammunition and gun carriages. The legend that is Springfield developed from there!

    1794
In 1794, The Armory began the manufacture of muskets for a young country. For the next 150 years, Springfield Armory functioned as a supplier for every major American conflict as well as a “think tank” for new firearm concepts.

    1968
In 1968, citing budgetary concerns, the U.S. Government closed Springfield Armory. Now the walls of Springfield Armory would house historians, paying homage to the past rather than those with an eye to the future.

    1974
Then in 1974, a passionate family by the name of Reese rescued not only the name “Springfield Armory,” but the philosophy that drove it for centuries.

With reverence for the legacy of The Armory, the Reese family resurrected the most historically significant designs produced by The Armory- M1 Garand, 1911-A1, M14. Fueled by the same obsession for improved manufacturing techniques and cutting edge design that inspired the likes of John C. Garand, and John Browning, they have continued to develop products that are loyal to Springfield Armory’s heritage while ensuring The Armory’s place in the progression of American firearms.

    2001
As Springfield Armory® entered a new millennium, the introduction of the XD® pistol changed the world of handguns forever. The XD® followed in the footsteps of so many legendary Armory designs before it, quickly gaining a reputation as a quality, reliable firearm that is easy to use.

In 2005, The Armory reminded the world that American innovation is alive and well. The SOCOM 16 was a reimagining of the legendary M1A™ that brought an unparalleled combination of power and maneuverability to the close-quarters battle rifle market.

In 2007, Springfield Armory® raised shooters’ expectations of what a polymer pistol should be with the introduction of the XD(M)® series of pistols. The XD(M)® carried on the Springfield Armory® tradition of setting the bar ever higher.

    2012
With a sharp perception of the market need for a powerful deep-concealment pistol, The Armory introduced the XD-S® in 2012.

This tiny but powerful pistol revolutionized the world of concealed carry with an impossibly small and amazingly easy to shoot design chambered in .45 ACP, and followed it with the 9mm in 2013.

    2014
The Armory unveiled the next step in the evolution of XD® series with the XD® Mod.2® Sub-Compact in 2014.

This re-contoured and slimmed-down frame features the GripZone™, a set of three unique textures designed to transform the shooting experience. Available in 9mm and .40-caliber, the Mod.2® refines the classic Point-and-Shoot characteristics for a difference you can feel.

Today Tackleberrys Texas favorite Gun Shop is proud to sell Springfield Handguns and Rifles and we look forward to many more years of firearm evolution from this amazing American Institution!

In 1974 Beretta had won a contract to produce small arms for the Brazilian Army. The contract required Beretta to build a Brazilian factory and use Brazilian labor. When the contract ran out in 1980, Beretta sold the plant to Forjas Taurus. By that time, Forjas Taurus had new Brazilian controlling owners that had purchased Forjas Taurus from Bangor Punta in 1977. Forjas Taurus now owned everything that once belonged to Beretta, including drawings, tooling, machinery, and employed a very experienced work force. Forjas Taurus was in the pistol business, and immediately sought to improve on the Beretta design, resulting in the popular and acclaimed Taurus PT-92 and PT-99 9mm pistols.

The next milestone for Forjas Taurus came in 1982. Forjas Taurus formed Taurus Holdings, Inc., in Miami, Florida. Taurus Holdings, in turn formed Taurus International Manufacturing, Inc. The Taurus brand was unknown in the United States at that time. This situation was to change dramatically in the next few years.

In 1984, Taurus Holdings made an announcement that had a tremendous impact on the entire industry. Taurus Holdings became the first company to offer its customers an unqualified LIFETIME REPAIR POLICY. This changed the course of the company in the U.S. market. Only recently has this policy been matched. It has never been exceeded. This innovative policy made everyone sit up and take notice of Taurus brand firearms.

  • Weatherby

    Weatherby

The history of Weatherby® began in the mid-1940s when a young cartridge "wildcatter" named Roy Weatherby set out to change the world of firearm performance. Contrary to then-popular thinking (heavy bullets pushed at slow speeds), Roy believed that lightweight bullets traveling at super high speeds provided the best combination for one-shot kills. Based upon that philosophy, he spent the next decade developing the high-powered Weatherby Magnum cartridges for which the company is known today (.224, .240, .257, .270, 7mm, .300, .30-378, .340, .338-378, .375, .378, .416 and .460).

Throughout that period, Roy was also producing or re-chambering rifles designed specifically to accommodate his super-charged ammunition. At that time, he was producing his rifles on FN Mauser and French Brevex Magnum Mauser actions. However in 1957, Roy would again catch the attention of the shooting and hunting world with a proprietary action that is today recognized around the world as the Mark V®.

The foundation for the Mark V was the need for a stronger, safer action, able to withstand tremendous pressure, and the possibility of blown primers and ruptured case heads (due to the unpredictability of early handloaded and wildcat cartridges). After nearly a half century of proven performance, the Mark V continues to be known as the world's strongest bolt action.

In 1970, Roy once again showed his entrepreneurial spirit when he introduced the Weatherby Vanguard® action, borrowing many of the same characteristics and design elements of the Mark V with two locking lugs (vs. 9 in the Mark V).

The Weatherby lineage continued in 1983 when Roy's son, Ed Weatherby, assumed the leadership mantle of the company. Under Ed's guidance, the company has seen growth and expansion both in Mark V and Vanguard offerings, including the newest Vanguard rifles, which feature guaranteed SUB-MOA accuracy. In addition to rifles, we offer a full line of Semi-Automatic and Pump shotguns, as well as accessories, apparel and collectibles.
